Reading Flyboys was gut-churning all the way through, from the global perspective, when Bradley looks at the horrors of the war from all sides, to the individual perspective, when he focuses on the seven men who are ostensibly the subjects of his book. Every society has people who are sadists and enjoy jamds.
Bradley’s phenomenal best-seller, Flags of Our Fatherswas rejected by about 20 publishing houses before Bantam took a chance. Preview — Flyboys by James D. I was also bothered a bit by his overly familiar way of referring to everyone by their first names and his casual use to terms like ‘Flyboys’ and ‘Spirit Warriors.
